Transformers, Golf, Quilting...Yes, I Have Eclectic Interests

I've had a fabulous, busy, fun week and I can't believe it's Friday already! I really need to get Twitter-pated so I can keep ya'll up to date when I don't have time for regular blog posts. My week in a nutshell:

* I've been quilting up a storm and the birthday quilt for my sis is finished. Turned out great, IMO, though many mistakes were made. Sewing is definitely one of those things learned by doing.

* I broke this season's golf cherry and swung by a little Pitch and Putt for 18 holes of 100 yards or less goodness. By about the 13th hole I was kicking ass. I owe this dramatic turn of events solely to the ice cream man. I was hot, sweaty and frustrated. When the tinkling ice cream truck music drifted through the trees, I darted across the fairway, hopped a fence and revived my energy with a red, white and blue Spacecicle. Gatorade is for pussies.

* I had my first official Simpsons Squishee. It tasted like ass.

* The dogs went to their new vet for shots and blood tests. Next up - full dental scaling. Doggie breath begone!

* I saw Transformers. I love love loved it. It was so much fun I was literally squealing with delight throughout the movie. I would love/be mortified to see video footage of my facial expressions, wide-eyed and catching flies with my dropped jaw. Wow. The twisting, swirling metal looked like magic and never got old. Even 2 hours into the movie I still couldn't wipe the huge grin off my face when one of the machines would transform.

I wasn't a huge Transformers fan when I was a kid. I did have a little Bumblebee (he was a VW bug back then), but it definitely wasn't one of my favorite shows. Jem? He-Man? Fraggle Rock? If any of those were on, I'd switch the channel faster than...well, not any faster than it would take me to get up from laying on my tummy, head propped up by my hands, and turn the giant dial to a new channel since my parents refused to get rid of our encased-in-wood old school TV. "There's nothing wrong with that TV. Now go play outside."

Anyway, if you've been thinking about going to see the big summer blockbuster version of Transformers, but hesitant because you weren't a fan of the kids' show, I say GO. I walked out of the theater feeling absolutely giddy and incredibly grateful to be alive right now. I got to see a story from my childhood come to life in a way that was so much better, so much more awe-inspiring than even my wildest 7 year old imagination conceived. It was one of those rare moments when I felt lucky to be part of that Hollywood magic just by sitting in the theater.

I'm glad I'm not a kid now, growing up with my programming being the million dollar blockbuster kind. If your first glimpse of Spiderman had been on the big screen, swinging from building to building in amazing CGI glory, what would you have to look forward to? I'm sure there will continue to be more advances in movies, but I can't see there being a huge dramatic improvement on today's childhood favorites compared to the cheaply thrown together Saturday morning line-up that we had to work with. There's just not enough room for improvement to really blow people away. So, a huge thanks to Micheal Bay for rocking my world! And now for something silly:

  • No, I don't think I'll ever get into knitting - too slow! Cool fabric that I can sew together by holding down the "gas" pedal, full speed ahead, is much more my style. =)
