Belly Dancing

I made it to my first belly dancing class today after flaking on the first one (10 am? I'm sure the schedule said noon!) and I had a great time. It's not the kind of dancing where you work up a sweat, so I'll still have to hit the gym, but it was interesting to discover all sorts of muscles that I rarely use. The movements are so specific. If you're doing a chest roll where you move your chest out, up, back and then down, my natural instinct is to move my shoulders too. Trying to move just one body part, like just your hips or just your neck is surprisingly difficult. It was great fun and a fabulous way to feel more in touch with my body and like a goddess at the same time.
'Course, my vision of a goddess does not include Nike spandex workout gear, so I may have to splurge on one of the belly dancing hip scarves with pretty jingly coins that make the loveliest music as dancers move their hips. My teacher let me use one of hers, but most of the girls had their own. I would love to make a movie for you guys too, so a belly dancing scarf is added to my Shopping Splurge List. =)
