Lost in the City

No, this isn't a mash up of two popular shows (can you imagine Carrie on an island without towel side service?) - I lost my dog!
I let both of my dogs out for a few minutes Monday night, but when his sister came back inside alone, the pug was nowhere to be found. I spent hours walking up and down the streets calling him, coming back home to check here, hoping he'd found his way home with no luck. I finally gave up the hunt and collapsed in tears around 2:00 a.m.
At that point I was really upset, but knew he was probably safe and sound inside someone's home. I walked for miles so there was no way he wouldn't have heard me. Knowing how friendly Piggy is, my biggest fear was that he followed some kid home and they might keep him! I tried not to think about that and scoured the phone book for all the possible shelters and animal hospitals I could call in the morning. Then I tried to get some sleep...ya right. Every little noise had me excited, hoping it was Piggy at the door. =(
Morning couldn't come soon enough. By 8:30 a.m. I was making the rounds, hoping someone had seen my baby. A little after 9:00 a.m., a lovely woman I spoke to at the pound called me back to tell me that someone had just dropped off a dog matching Piggy's description. I hightailed it down there & my heart skipped a beat when I saw my sweet pug napping in a cage, contentedly snoozing without a worry in the world. I'm guessing he'd had breakfast.
If they could only talk, eh? I have no clue what he got himself up to, but my best guess is that spring bug in the air put a sense of adventure in my usually under foot dog. He certainly looked no worse for wear, though he did stink like he'd been romping through garbage all night.
One bath and my monthly grocery budget later (unlicensed dog impound fees are not pretty), life is back to normal at Casa Madison. Piggy is snoring at my feet, the birds are chirping - time for our morning walk. Guess who'll be wearing a leash?

Dog tag abd even a chip are a good thing here in the states. Are Dog was lost and picked up, with no tag on the vet at the pound checked for a chip which gave them are number. He was soon home and a new tag with out charge.

Oh no!!! That has to be one of the worst feelings in the world, I suppose next to not knowing where an your actual human child is. It's like you have to go through all the stages of mourning and then back again. So glad he's okay!

All I can say, although it sounds cruel, is *shock collar*. Trust me, if they are without a leash, you will *never* lost a pet again. My b-in-law did this with their full-sized dog while they were at an AFB in CA (think wart hogs) and after 1 zap, the dog did not leave their side, on walks, for months. It's not about punishment, but safety. A hog would've killed hit over-size whimp...the collar kept him safe and reminded him where he should be.
Again, sounds cruel, but it works. I'm not about punishment, but safety. This time, it is not only Puggy's, but your mental safety.
Glad everything worked out...you can only wonder WTF is going through their minds when they wonder off. Then again, my 6 month old "spits" at me when I feed him. The "man of the house" would starve without us. Silly midget. :)
