Homeless

It's official - I'm homeless! I handed the keys over to the new owners (well, technically my lawyer handed them over) & am now on the road heading to Seattle.

I had a tough time finding a decent place to stay overnight that takes dogs, but lucked out with a little indie hotel that has wireless for my laptop, a hot tub & probably only 5 other guests in the whole place. I'm not sure anyone else is even staying on my floor. My first choice was the Hampton Inn (always decent), but since they had no room in the inn, I'm soaking up some tacky 1982 decor & quiet. I'm loving the clean sheets & towels, mostly just because I won't have to clean them. I'm so sick of cleaning!

Packing for my big move took much longer than it should have & I have cuts, scrapes & bruises everywhere. Apparently I do not possess mad spacial relation skillz. The toughest item I tried to pack was a simple rice cooker. I must've tried it in 4 different boxes (!) before I found a place for it where it wouldn't get crushed and it wouldn't be the only thing in the box. My storage unit is packed to the rafters & I still had to leave a bunch of stuff at my friend, the big V's workshop. I didn't finish getting everything hauled to storage until almost noon on Monday. The original plan was to have everything packed by Saturday so I could spend all day Sunday cleaning, getting my car ready & wrapping up any last minute errands. Instead I got up at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday & worked straight through until Monday night. I took a late night break for Chinese food (mmmmm...beef with black bean sauce), but otherwise I was a packing, moving, cleaning maniac for 32 hours. Whew!

The worst part of packing is all the stuff you inevitably have to get rid of if you're short on space. I hate just tossing my things in the trash. If I was more organized, I would've held a moving sale or put some stuff up on eBay or at least donated the stuff to one of the local charities that I support. I did donate lots of clothes & household stuff as I pared things down over the last couple of months, but I was still left with piles of things like blankets & pillows & dishes that I couldn't manage to pack up. When you haven't had time to sleep & you don't know how you're going to fit your dogs in the car, the quickest easiest solution is the trash can. I left lots of stuff for the new owners too. I hope they think that's a good thing & not just left over junk I was too lazy to remove myself!

I'm rambling, so that means it's time for me to crash again. I woke up at noon yesterday - an hour after check out time. Whoops! Long days of driving seem easy compared to the last few days, but it still takes a lot out of me. I have a tough time focusing on something as boring as staying inside the white lines for hours at a time with no other entertainment. My Sirius antenna cable broke. =( I got it for Christmas & have been loving it in the city, especially the comedy stations. Now that I'm in the mountains with zero reception, go figure I would slice the cable almost in half. I still have no clue how I did it. I'll be on a mission to track down another one tomorrow. A girl's gotta have her Raw Dog!

  • A doggie diner where you can take your dogs inside with you? I've heard of some places with outdoor patios that allow dogs, but that's about it. Tell me more! =)
