Halloween etc.

My dad has to be in Saskatchewan for a few days for some business meetings, so I'm driving out to meet him today. I love getting to see him outside of the normal family gatherings of holidays & trips back home. Whenever he's in Sask he stays at the same hotel & everybody knows him from the front desk staff to the waiters at the hotel restaurant to the chambermaids. Everywhere he goes people seem genuinely happy to see him & when I drove down to meet him last year I was shocked & delighted at how many people were so excited to meet *me* too. "Ohhhhhh! You must be Mr. Madison's daughter! So good to finally meet you. Your dad talks about you all the time!"

I'm quite accustomed to being anonymous so this took some getting used to. I was quickly won over after our meal at the hotel restaurant, however; when the waiter asked if we wanted coffee or dessert, I told him I was craving a Starbucks latte. Much to my surprise he (or one of his minions) actually went to Starbucks & returned with a latte for me. It was at that moment I began to suspect that my dad is a lot cooler than he lets on. Certainly the coolest guy in Saskatchewan.
